On one recent weekday, late-night excursion to Steubens (following an amazing concert from Denver’s own Nathaniel Rateliff at the Mercury Cafe), the ladies of Beards of Denver were lucky enough to late night dine with Bob and his fantastic beard. Bob not only can grow a stealth beard, he is also a wine connoisseur, as in, this bearded boy knows how to make the sauce! Because he’s also extremely sharp, Bob’s had his beard since he was 20 years old. Originally hailing from Southern Missouri, he’s been in Denver for the past 10 years. A hustler at dominoes, he also told us he excels at gold brickin’, making hooch (as previously stated), and wrastlin’. Combine all that with his beard, he’s really the total bearded package!
When you go to bacon and beer breakfast, you know you are in for a great time, guaranteed. It’s then a bonus then when you come across a great beard to go along with your bacon and beer! Meet Casey, who was serving up tasty bacon from the Denver Bacon Company at the Denver Beer Company’s beer and bacon breakfast on a recent gorgeous Saturday morning in Denver. Casey, who is the Chef De Cuisine at Masterpiece Delicatessen in Denver, has had this beard for the past seven years. Casey has called Denver home the past nine years, and originally hails from the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area (thus the love of bacon is not surprising). We liked Casey even more when he told us he hasn’t been clean shaven since he was 19 years old–start man. Casey’s sweetheart loves his beard–wise woman–and his two brothers also have the ability to sport beards, but don’t always grow them–we hope they’ll follow Casey’s lead, look at that beard, why wouldn’t you? Thanks Casey!
No matter what part of town we’re in, we seem to be lucky enough to encounter some amazing bearded men, and last Saturday on South Broadway was no exception to that rule. Zach is a Colorado native we met while he was ordering a pint at the Irish Rover. Zach keeps his beard most of the year and claims it holds lots of secrets–we can only imagine. Zach and his beard live in Capitol Hill and when not out in SoBo he can be found helping people out with their insurance claims at the DMV when they jack up their cars; a noble trade indeed. Zach assured us his lady friend loves his beard–or else she’s a talented liar–and that his dad is jealous of his beard skills; he hopes to grow his own beard out once he retires. We’re glad Zach’s father has his eyes on the prize. And did we mention that cardigan? Yeah, probably didn’t have to, but it sure adds to the whole lot of awesome here. Thanks Zach!
We found Rick and his great beard behind the Hogshead Brewery taps at the Denver Beer Festivus on Saturday. Originally from San Francisco, Rick and his beard first came to Colorado in 1993. He started growing his beard again about five months ago when he and his wife moved back to Denver from Malaysia after living there for three years. Rick hates shaving, and even though his wife doesn’t like kissing him with his beard, he still sports it proudly. Rick and his beard have been managing Hogshead Brewery for about three months, and we highly recommend stopping into the brewery, saying hi to Rick, and sampling the delicious Gilpin Black Gold beer—you won’t be disappointed with the brew or the beard!
We had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with Ben at the Crimson Canary restaurant this week. A Denver native, he’s been working at the Crimson Canary for about six months, but experimenting with his facial hairstyles a lot longer than that. He described his beard as a sort of 2 a.m. shadow currently, and that his beard adds that oh-so-important structure to his great jaw line. Initially he said it was laziness that lead him to start growing his beard, but for whatever the reason, we are in favor of his decision. Thanks for being a great sport Ben!
Beards of Denver followers, meet Jeff Jagunich, a self-described funnyman and artist in Denver who wears his grand beard with pride, here puffed-out for, obviously, high-fashion reasons. Jeff has rocked his beard since 2002, only once making the grave mistake of shaving it. We’re thankful he came back to his senses and is now rockin’ his beard in style. You can check out Jeff’s art here and here, and follow him on twitter at @jeffjagunich for a laugh or to see when he may be doing standup around town. With that great beard, his routine is sure to be top-notch!
